From Drudge: 'Santa Claus does not exist' school tells stunned kids

A primary school has been accused of spoiling Christmas for pupils after a lesson telling them that Santa Claus does not exist.

Children as young as nine were told that only 'small children believe in Father Christmas'.

And yesterday their parents criticised teachers for taking the 'magic' out of the festive period.

i wonder how much of GDP is devoted to animals kept as pets

well, various sources are reporting that the raw numbers are anywhere from $2 billion to $3 billion, just for christmas presents for pets, and that the whole year's total comes to almost $40 billion spent on pets in america. and our GDP is estimated at like 12 trillion. so, if it's just a simple percentage calculation (i'm not sure if there's some complicated formula or if i'm even drawing from the right data) that's like 1/3 of 1 percent.

i don't know how this compares around the world, but i wouldn't be surprised if we were near the top of the list of countries for "portion of GDP spent on domestic animals."

You need to visit the westside (of los angeles, not Utah) more often...people here treat their pets as if they ARE human...I mean people here put their cats on leashes. So the fact that St. Nick is now Santa Claws...well the rich people here have nothing else (besides their pets and expensive cars) to spend their mega bucks on...so why not? I'm not gonna be a judge....

Actually, the real Santa Claus is St. Nickolas. A man who helped the poor and under priviledged in Europe centuries ago. The Catholic Church made him a saint. But, you are correct, the season has been greatly over commercialized.

I wonder how much of GDP is devoted to animals kept as pets. I then wonder where that $ amount ranks among the nations of the world.
