i guess all those years of studying american history, watching history channel war documentaries, and reading about the tyranny of fascist/communist/nazi regimes finally caught up with me. i have finally internalized my previously superficial gratitude for our military. i watched this moving tribute to the military, and then i just kinda pondered it for awhile. and cried like a little girl.

there will always be men in the world who are evil, and who will take advantage of every opportunity to rule people and property. nations will cycle through the human predicament of tyranny and anarchy forever if stability cannot be achieved.
in america, we do not have to worry about this predicament. as long as i've been alive (and for about 200 years before that) we've lived under a balanced democratic society, and under the rule of law. this may make it hard for us to understand what evil men in the world can do with their volition, but they can do a lot of bad...the sky (or should i say the deepest depth of hell) is the limit.
if not for our military, who are willing to forego comfort and security in favor of duty and sacrifice to defend us, it would be up to me and you. and we would probably get our butts kicked. i am very grateful that we have an able military that stands up for what is right.
thank you to every man and woman in the US armed forces who defends my way of life.
