avoid USsearch.com if you actually want to find people

i tried to use the services of US search this summer on behalf of a relative searching for a wayward business partner. after receiving an order confirmation email from US search, the people-finding company proceeded to fail to display any competence in the area of finding things, specifically any information i emailed them. i attempted to point this out to their customer service people, but they continued to be clueless. the following comical exchange of emails represents all of my conversations with US search:

[request submitted through ussearch.com website]

First Name : [redacted]
Last Name : [redacted]
Email Address : [redacted]
Daytime Phone : [redacted]
Search Subject: [redacted]
Order Number : 7612****
Order Date : 7/5/07

Description: Please cancel my order. You have taken too much time to find this person. Please send me confirmation when the order has been canceled.

Search ID#: Either 7612**** or F18R****
Full name: [redacted]
Email address used to open account: [redacted]
First & last name of person I am seeking: [redacted]

Again, please confirm when you have canceled this order. Thank you.

Hi, I was never given a “search ID #”. I was given an order confirmation number and an order tracking number. I have attached a PDF of the order page I see when I track my order on your website. With this, and the information I supplied in my previous emails (see below), you now have every piece of information I received from US Search. If you people can’t locate your own records with all this information, then I don’t know why I ever thought you could locate a person for me.

Hi,
You are surely familiar with your business’ own policies, wherein you do not charge my credit card on file until you find the address of the lost person. I am aware that I have not been charged yet for anything. I am not asking for a refund. I just want to make sure I don’t see a charge show up in three months whenever you get around to fulfilling my order. Please cancel the requested search now.
Thanks!

Hi, I am copying below the text of an email I received with the subject line: “Order Confirmation.” This is how I got the crazy idea that an order was placed on your system. Perhaps I placed the order in Bizarro World, because it sure feels like I am taking some extra strength crazy pills.

Please let me know if it is still my fault that you people have no idea what happened to my order.

Answer me these questions three:

(1) Was the email I received (subject line: “order confirmation”) meant to confirm my order, or was is that just a joke you like to play on your customers?

(2) I copied that “confirmation” email to you in a previous email. You can find it below. Again, I am wondering: Did I ever successfully place an order with ussearch.com?

(3) In said “confirmation” email, I received two numbers. One was labeled an “order confirmation number” and the other an “order tracking number.” These are the only two numbers I’ve received from you. Am I missing any number that you typically send out to your customers?

“answer me these questions three” is an allusion to monty python. given their overall level of incompetence, i cannot assume US search recognized this, but nevertheless, at this point, they did not respond.

[...] travis created an interesting post today on avoid USsearch.com if you actually want to find people. Here’s a short outline:You are surely familiar with your business’ own policies, wherein you do not charge my credit card on file until you find the address of the lost person. hahaha Whenever I get an Indian person on the phone I ask if there are any Americans there. If not, I ask for a number for an American line. If they can not provide either of the above, then I hang up and call back at a later time hoping to reach a call center in the USA.

Believe everything Travis has said and demonstrated about ussearch.com. I should have known better when I came to a site that looked like amazon.com but with fuzzy, cheap graphics and poorly designed and restrictive account management tools.
I just called to have my credit card info removed and they said that was not possible and hung up on me. I called back and they hung up again. The third call, I was put on hold for 10 minutes (intentionally I am sure) and then the same combative and rude dingbat answered. After I got her name (Betty she said, yeah right), I asked if she was going to hang up on me too. It was so funny, because she started to break her accent into an urban (Oh no you didn’t) kind of cadence but then recovered and asked if I wanted her supervisor.
Bottom line, I do not understand how a company can treat paying customers so poorly and stay in business.
    Never use:

    US SEARCH.com Inc.
    600 Corporate Pointe, Suite 220
    Culver City, CA 90230

    Public Relations
    Phone number: (310) 302-6300

  5. The following would’ve been more efective:

IF YOU SAY “Thank you for your e-mail; we appreciate your inquiry and value your concerns” ONE MORE TIME… I WILL GO THERE AND BURN THAT F*** COMPANY WITH ALL OF YOU INSIDE, SO NOW CANCEL MY F*** ORDER!!!!

  6. Wow I have never ever encountered such an unprofessional customer support team in my life…LOL with my situation i did a reverse phone look up and they emailed me back stating that the phone number was out of order or incorrect….so I called the number myself and shockingly it rang and went to the persons voice mail…..He has a restricted number block on his phone so you cannot call from a private phone I informed ussearch of this and they sent me another email stating that when they called it said cannot complete call as dialed…..I called the number again and again it rang and voice mail picked up….I cannot believe this company actually calls themself a search company as they cant find their way out of a room with 1 door. LOL never ever use this company

  9. Roger

This sounds about right. I’m going through a Paypal dispute of charges to these f___ers about their crappy joke of a report that anyone can get for free from the Whitepages.com. I was looking for actual information like Current phone #’s and address. As a test I got a report on myself, which did not have my current address or ANY phone numbers. I can call 411 and get more info. Their web page looks compelling but they are another bend over and take scam site. I think their actually are services that businesses can order for this kind of information but it probably costs hundreds not 39.99… AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. don

I’m glad I came here before I placed an order with USsearch.com, this saved me a lot of time and money. Any good sites worth looking into in order to find a lost co-worker?

  11. travis

don, after the US search debacle, i used locatepeople.com and they found the dude i was looking for in like 4 or 5 weeks.

  12. sheila

don, i used http://www.thesearchgods.com, and they were great, a real PI firm runs this site. found my person quick.
