bay bridge collapse: probably an inside job like 9/11

A gasoline tanker truck crashed and burst into flames….melting the bolts and weakening the beams of a heavily used overpass until it collapsed.
Witnesses reported flames rising up to 200 feet into the air in the 3:45 a.m. crash. Heat exceeded 2,750 degrees and caused the steel beams holding up the interchange from eastbound I-80 to eastbound I-580 above to buckle and bolts holding the structure together to melt, leading to the collapse, California Department of Transportation director Will Kempton said. [source]

perhaps the tin-foil hatters could look into this one to make sure it wasn’t masterminded by george bush as an excuse to invade a sovereign nation. after all, we know that fire can’t melt concrete and steel!

Thousands of scientists and engineers are now speaking out against the official 9/11 Story, because it is IMPOSSIBLE for air-fires to melt steel, due to the fact that atmospheric air-pressure 101.3 kPa air simply does not contain enough O2 (oxygen) to get temperatures hotter than 600 C, even in a strong wind.
Don’t believe me! Run these tests for yourself & try to melt steel or aluminium in an air fire. You can start with your steel cooking pots and aluminium frying pans on your gas stove. Try to melt your barbeque grill or hotplate!
Why is it that the steel engine parts in your car’s engine do not melt? Even the steel piston in a motorbike engine does not melt due to fires!

Is it too hard to believe that the mass media LIED to you all ? (because they r controlled by corporations that want to get rich in the middle-east, at the costof people’s lives? )

Is it too hard to believe that a war-loving government would want to mass murder thousands of its own people, to fool everyone into supporting their imperial campaigns, pre-emptive aggressive wars and permanent occupations of middle-eastern countries that had nothing to do with 9/11 ?

You know, the Nazis did the same thing when they burned down the Reichstag (German Parliament house), which led to Hitler being given dictatorship power. [source: deranged fruitcakes at yahoo answers]

yes, do you have several thousand gallons of gasoline or high-octane jet fuel just sitting around? then try one of these simple tests for yourself!

all the crackpot conclusions the fruitcakes drew have been eviscerated by one sleepy california trucker at 3 am. unfortunately, there is about zero chance that the wack jobs will ever abandon their “9/11 was an inside job” ideas.

UPDATE: check out this off-the-hook fark thread and this old post from maddox

The “inside job” whackos are already started their “straw man” argument, claiming gasoline burns so much hotter than jet fuel that you can’t compare the two scenarios.

Of course, the tanker gasoline was burning itself off on the surface of the concrete roadway in Cali while the commercial jet fuel had ignited a couple of thousand tons of flamable materials inside the WTC. The inside jobbers tend to ignore little details like that.

Naturally, the America hating loons have to also ignore the facts that the two 767’s that struck the Twin Towers weighed @274K pounds and were traveling in excess of 450mph, while the fuel tanker truck that crashed on the interstate weighed @80K pounds and was probably going 80mph.

The “truthers” also have to ignore the fact that the collapsed interstate didn’t have, by conservative estimates, a hundred and twenty million pounds of WTC towers bearing down on it, like the crash and burn zones of the Twin Towers did.

But yeah, the looney toons are already carrying on about the difference in burn temperatures.

    What a bunch of maroons.

  2. Having read some of the thermite theories, its all rather compelling.

The greatest counter argument seems to be that it just seems improbable for whoever to pull something that big off without someone talking about it.

  3. Since when did facts ever get in the way of conspiracy theorists?

  4. Well done Fritz, lol. Interesting post, Travis. Check out the video recap with footage of the fire here:

I don’t know if you are associated with TheNewsRoom (great guerrilla marketing!) but that looks like an awesome site. Thanks!

2 bridges in Birmingham Alabama were hit by tankers on separate occasions, both of which had to be replaced due to the steel supports melting and causing the bridges to sag. Sorry, but fire will melt steel.

  7. Have you ever seen Darth Rove and the mystery “truckdriver” at the same time?

  8. Jack Jacobs

So the bridge collapsed. A couple of bolts weakened and the upper level fell one story. The WTC buildings 1 and two turned to dust before our very eyes. WTC 7 fell at near free fall speed. You people need to investigate the true facts before you slander people who have investigated the matter much more than you probably ever will. When I grew up, an open mind was valued as a virtue. You people can’t even think for yourself.

You people can’t even think for yourself.

you are hardly the first to say that. it makes me wonder if you are even thinking for yourself!

You people need to investigate the true facts before you slander people who have investigated the matter much more than you probably ever will.

popular mechanics wasted a whole issue refuting the conspiracy nonsense:

Healthy skepticism, it seems, has curdled into paranoia. Wild conspiracy tales are peddled daily on the Internet, talk radio and in other media. Blurry photos, quotes taken out of context and sketchy eyewitness accounts have inspired a slew of elaborate theories: The Pentagon was struck by a missile; the World Trade Center was razed by demolition-style bombs; Flight 93 was shot down by a mysterious white jet. As outlandish as these claims may sound, they are increasingly accepted abroad and among extremists here in the United States.
Fortunately, facts can be checked. For our special report, PM compiled a list of the 16 most common claims made by conspiracy theorists, assertions that are at the root of virtually every 9/11 alternative scenario. These claims all involve fields that are part of PM’s core expertise — structural engineering, aviation, military technology and science.

We assembled a team of reporters and researchers, including professional fact checkers and the editors of PM, and methodically analyzed all 16 conspiracy claims. We interviewed scores of engineers, aviation experts, military officials, eyewitnesses and members of the investigative teams who have held the wreckage of the attacks in their own hands. We pored over photography, maps, blueprints, aviation logs and transcripts. In every single instance, we found that the facts used by conspiracy theorists to support their fantasies were mistaken, misunderstood or deliberately falsified.

Reasonable people are entitled to wish that our government had been better prepared and more alert. But those who peddle fantasies that this country encouraged, permitted or actually carried out the attacks are libeling the truth — and disgracing the memories of the thousands who died that day.

go read all nine (9) pages of their report. and next time, you need to investigate true facts before you slander people like us who actually have half a brain.

In the offical 9/11 reports, the word “melt” is never used. All materials weaken with increasing temperature and steel is no exception. Strength loss for steel is generally accepted to begin at about 300ºC.

When will you conspiracy morons get your facts straight? But then I guess if you guys ever did get your facts straight there’d be no conspiracy theories at all.

  12. Boy oh boy, I just looked at the 4/29 site listed above, and am appalled at the ignorance of the person who put it out. I live in Minneapolis and the bridge has been gettting resurfaced for the last month and was down to one lane going each way so the job could get finished. The yahoos that put out that site picked out a picture of a fuel truck that was on fire and claim that authorities are saying it was the cause of the structural collapse. Pathetic. That truck was ON the bridge. Then they have the balls to say that MNDOT “warned people about the bridge” as if they knew it was going to fall and then posted an f’ing bulletin put out by MNDOT informing people to follow a different route. Not because they thought the bridge was going to collapse, but because there was a Twins game going on and that already seriously messes up traffic coming out of downtown on a good day, not to mention during bridge work. So nice try moron, but no dice. And one more thing- its not much of a conspiracy if you tell people in advance.

I have no comment in particular about the bridge collapse, but have a general one about this paticular forum. Those who resort to repeatedly passing disparaging insults like “whackos”, “wack jobs”, “tin foil hatters”, and “deranged fruitcakes” only serve to reveal their amazing stupidity, along with a general dissatisfaction with life. Aside, considering Popular Mechanics was referenced in this thread, I’m happy to comment that they’re full of sh!t. See what happens when they try to defend their moronic position against the wisdom of Charles Goyette. Note Goyette was voted best talkshow host in Phoenix, AZ, by the Phoenix Times and and the New York Times.

Fire doesn’t need to melt steel – that’s just playing into the so-called arguments of Truthers.

Fire simply has to soften steel. Like most solids, steel doesn’t instantly go from solid to liquid because it reaches a certain temperature. Take a stick of butter. You can put it in the freezer and it’ll come out incredibly hard and solid. Heat it up to 50 degrees F. It’s not going to melt it, but that brick-like butter suddenly won’t be very brick like.

At 800 degrees, steel loses something like half its strength because it is SOFTENED.

Melting isn’t even necessary for cause the WTC to collapse when the supporting steel superstructure loses half its strength.
