Brazil and “Reciprocity”

As you may know, the U.S. has implemented a procedure whereby visitors from countries that need a visa to enter the U.S. have to be digitally fingerprinted upon entry. This seems like a logical measure, not only to fight terrorism, but to help keep track of foreigners who just may…(feign shock)…stay here illegally.

Few countries take more offense to our “stronghanded” border-control tactics than our neighbors in Central and South America. They are forced to live under norteamericano imperialism in their home nations, eating McDonald’s hamburgers and drinking Coca-Cola. Naturally, hundreds of thousands each year try and escape our evil influence by coming to the United States. So, I think we can all understand why Latins get pretty ticked off when we require them to do any sort of paperwork before crossing the border and collecting welfare benefits. [Imagine voice of George Costanza] “We owe them big time!”

Hence, it isn’t surprising that Brazil, in an effort to stem the tide of U.S. citizens taking haven in the ghettos of Rio and Sao Paulo, has begun to require fingerprinting of all U.S. visitors to the country.

Some things just make me laugh…but apparently the Brazilians are laughing too. At least everybody’s happy!

  1. my sister’s weird. she’s married. she took a picture with her family, and everybody’s looking slightly to the LEFT. it’s like, “hey guys, the camera’s right here.” then something happened over there that made EVERYBODY happy.

The American snobbish pride and your stinky prejudice view over Latin American countries and inhabitants deserves the diplomatic “reciprocity”. Open your eyes to how the rest of the world sees your so proud country.
Your ill beef Japan refuses to buy - that makes me laugh.

    Let’s see…

    “The American snobbish pride…”

Ahh yes, the most common criticism from those who hate America.

“…and your stinky prejudice view over Latin American countries and inhabitants…”

I have lived in Latin America for 2 1/2 years. I know of what I speak. I returned on January 1st from a four month stay in Argentina. I love the people, but can’t stand the prevailing political attitudes. For example, the Argentine government went into their typical 13 year-old girly-girl crybaby routine last week when a U.S. State Dept. official suggested that Argentina shouldn’t be so cozy with Fidel Castro.

“…[the U.S.] deserves the diplomatic ‘reciprocity’.”

Deserved or not, the Brazilian government is being extremely petty. They have no more reason to fingerprint U.S. tourists now than they did before. For such a poor country, I find it sad that the government spends tax dollars to harrass tourists who are visiting Brazil to spend money in the country.

I prefer “snobbish pride” to stupidity any day.
