Does the LDS Church preach mercy, forgiveness, and love?

People believe a lot of untruths about the LDS Church. Some people actually think, for example, that Mormons do not believe in Jesus Christ. Of course, that reveals a lack of any serious inquiry: The very first thing on the signs outside LDS chapels is the full name of the Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Today, an apparently otherwise educated person commented with an apparently sincere belief that the LDS Church does not ever preach about any of the following topics: forgiveness, love, or mercy.

As a Mormon, I hear forgiveness, love, and mercy preached at basically every meeting.

For fun, I checked the Church’s official website, http://www.lds.org, for each of these topics. They are all there!

In fact, Google can limit a web search just to a single website. It also estimates the number of page results based on the number of relevant pages crawled. As you can see, a search for “mercy” or “forgiveness” turns up more than a half million unique page results for each word. A search for “love” brings up over 11 million hits.
