D.O.J…F.B.I…I.N.S…B.L.A., B.L.A.

let’s say i’m an american christian living in a foreign country…say, saudi arabia. let’s say i’m either there illegally or i have overstayed my visa, and so i’m breaking a law. its kind of an important law. its not something you just do by accident, like roll through a stop sign.

now, if 20 illegal american, christian immigrants in saudia arabia hijacked jumbo jets and attempted to fly them into major landmarks and kill thousands of saudi arabian citizens, would the saudi government be justified in arresting as many illegal immigrants as it could? wouldn’t it be the government’s responsibility to arrest me and the other illegal immigrants and making sure we weren’t planning any similar crimes or had anything to do with the recent hijackings?

sure, that’s bad luck for the illegal immigrants that turn out to be innocent –being in the wrong place at the wrong time–but let’s face it…they were breaking a law. wouldn’t it seem odd, in our case, to ask the US government (role of government: to provide for the common defense) to honor the rights of law-breaking foreigners before it secures the safety of the general, law-abiding population?

[it is taking the FBI a long time to clear the detainees of serious charges, which is unfortunate. but there are just so many illegal immigrants that the INS let in (or caught, then let loose before)….maybe we should detain the INS, instead.]

so why is anyone upset about illegal immigrants & visa-breakers being detained after september 11th? they didn’t just, one sunday while taking their evening stroll, wander across the atlantic ocean, unwittingly enter US territory, and begin to live here.

we wouldn’t expect any other government in the world (like saudi arabia, for example) to just yawn-off illegal foreigners/idealogical enemies in their countries if the situation were reversed. we shouldn’t expect ours to do so in this case.

for a satirical perspective on this an other issues, there’s always scott ott
