elected official decides not to stand for pledge

WorldNetDaily reported on April 6:

A town official in a Boston suburb opposed to the war in Iraq has created a local uproar by refusing to give the Pledge of Allegiance at a recent meeting of elected officials.

Regina Burke, the “Selectman” (councilman) who refused to stand for the pledge, is causing quite an uproar in Hull, Massachusetts with her actions and explanation. Burke explained that she was only “speaking from the heart” concerning her opposition to current U.S. policies.

Not content to leave her justification at that, Burke further explained that her opposition to standing for the pledge was rooted in the fact that “Every time I see the flag, I can picture George Bush wearing it as a toga, and I don’t know what it stands for anymore other than for his particular financial group and followers.”

Anyone who, on demand, can visualize the president sporting the flag as a toga needs help.
