Glenn Beck: Right on oil.
I know that Glenn Beck comes off sometimes as a bit bombastic, being a radio personality and all. But his recent piece on CNN about energy in general and oil in particular is, well, a pretty good read.
He addresses a lot of the talking points regarding off-shore drilling, gas prices and speculators, among other things.
“It’s not going to help for another 10 years!”
Here’s the thing. America is a long-term plan for me. I don’t know where these people plan to be in 10 years, but I plan to be here.
“It’s all the speculators”
Speculation has a place in all markets, but as usual our lawmakers and much of the media are focused on the wrong thing. Speculators don’t make money when the markets go up, they make it when they are right.

I just read it earlier today as well and thought he made some really good points.
Very interesting. I was very quick to jump on the speculation bandwagon. Dang it!! I fell for it! haha!
So I really liked what he said about the speculation, however, about understanding what they are speculating on. The real point that came to light for me, was that WE are the ones who cause the speculators to go crazy, because we WILL NOT drill and get the oil where we can. Of course they are going to drive prices up.
The real question I have is who is paying for all these environmental groups? How do we get done what needs to be done. The part of the article that mentioned all the other resources/fuel types was right on. We need nuclear power. We need domestic drilling. All that will lead to alternative fuels, but more importantly, industry advancement.
I like the look of the xprize competition, achieving 100 miles to the gallon. It will be real innovation, like this, that is going to really help us out, and that comes in the private sector. At least it does when it can be marketed, mass produced and sold for some sort of a profit. We all have to live…
