MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Felipe Calderon took over as Mexico’s president on Friday and pleaded for an end to months of unrest over his narrow election win, but a huge brawl erupted in Congress where leftist opponents vowed to block him from taking the formal oath of office.

Dozens of rival lawmakers threw punches and chairs at each other on the floor of Congress on Friday morning, less than two hours before Calderon was to be sworn in.

Admit it…wouldn’t you love to see the two former “amatuer boxers” Harry Reid and Orrin Hatch duke it out on the Senate floor?

  2. Just this week Jim Webb said he felt like slugging the POTUS for asking “how’s your boy.” Webb compromised on getting his wannabe redneck ass kicked by the Secret Service and immaturely replied: “that’s between me and my boy.”

A couple of days later a very intelligent, respected and recognized, liberal PhD who works for the federal government praised this behavior to me.

So much for political maturity on the left.

  3. Al Gore set the tone back in 2000.

  4. cyberhillbilly,

and Cheney telling a Senator on the Senate floor to “f” himself is a sign of respect and civility?

cheney’s personal disagreement with senator leahy didn’t include throwing chairs or punches with the intent of altering the outcome of a judicially-endorsed election.

i mean, swearing at somebody may not be the most respectful thing to do, but in terms of maliciousness and immaturity, it pales in comparison to the left’s view of how to contest a tight election.

  6. travis,

Right. My comment was directed towards cyberhillbilly who brought up Webb’s encounter with Bush. I’ve got no problem with your post on Mexico and their…lively…demonstration of democracy.

Anyone else find it funny that the CNN reporter’s last name is Whitbeck? And he’s in Mexico! Ha! You might as well send Mr Speck and Mr. Greesa as well.
