Juan Manuel Fangio
Ten years ago today the greatest race car driver of all time, Juan Manuel Fangio, passed away at the age of 84. He won 5 Formula One championships and 22 out of the 51 races he participated in. Amazing.
I lived in his hometown of Balcarce, Argentina, back in 2001 and had the opportunity to talk to people who knew him personally. The man was a great driver and an exceptional human being.
One of Fangio’s famous sayings:
“Debes siempre luchar por ser el mejor, pero jamás debes pensar que ya lo has logrado.”
Roughly translated: “You should always fight to be the best, but never think that you’ve accomplished it.”
