kobe witch hunt?
LA lakers coach, phil jackson, claimed this week that the recent fines and foul calls against his franchise player, kobe bryant, are a “witch hunt.” (video of jackson’s comments)
kobe has been flailing his arms at his opponent’s eyes and shoving his elbows at their noses. he has been suspended for 2 games total in the past three months, and was recently given a flagrant-1 foul after review.
the NBA fined jackson and the lakers each $50,000 for his comments critical of the league. but the NBA is wrong here. they shouldn’t have fined jackson for being critical of the league. they should have fined him $50,000 for his obscene stupidity.
the NBA doesn’t want to hurt kobe. it isn’t out to get one of its most skilled and popular players. as jim rome said on the radio yesterday, (i’ll paraphrase):
why would the NBA want to sideline one of its most marketable players? i’ll be looking forward to the anti-lebron james campaign soon. and maybe they’ll try to convince dwayne wade to have season-ending surgery.
heh.
since the NBA probably can’t justify fining someone for his low intelligence, i suppose we’ll have to settle for their stated purpose in this case.

Amen.
The Manu Ginobili incident was deserving of a suspension. Then Kobe thinks nobody is going to notice when he does the exact same thing to Marko Jaric?
But now Kobe has realized he needs a new move, so he’s started polishing his elbows on opposing players.
Geez.
