a friend of ours died last week in utah in a horrific car crash. i am still in shock. you never think of car accident victims as people you know. they are usually just faceless names. it is very different when you know and care about the person driving the vehicle that gets smashed to bits. you look at the wreckage and think, “what were her last moments like?” and “i hope she didn’t suffer.”

the one thing i do not wonder is, “where is her soul now?” alma 40:11,12 informs:

11 Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.

12 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.

rest in peace, lorna.

one comment i really enjoyed reading, left in response to one KSL news story:

Lorna’s life shows how many people can be affected by one person. She was an example of friendship and tolerance. Lorna and I hung out quite a bit a few years ago. I hope no one feels that I am being disrespectful here but I can just see her now on the other side bragging to everyone: “I got ran over by a dump truck, how cool is that!” She was just that kind of fun loving person. My thoughts are with her family. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

if we keep our personalities even in death, then i do not doubt that is exactly what she is saying.

you know, even when we do not know someone really well you can tell a lot about a person by the friends they leave behind. i must say how grateful i am too for the knowledge that there is life after death. our families truly can live together forever. i feel peace and solace in that knowledge. though sad and terrible the loss, i know it is only temporary. my prayers are also with lorna’s family.

I knew “Sister Lister” when she was on her mission in Paris, France. Her name floated throughout the mission as belonging to a person filled with love, charity, compassion, and a great sense of humor. She is be missed by many.

I just want to say that I was there at the site as the body was recovered from the wreck. To this day I can not get those images out of my head.
