People keep confusing his ads with his real behavior...

He is something of a far right fanatic in his actions.

Having attended a house party/fundraiser where he spoke/mingled, I would have to disagree. There were about 15 people in attendance, most of them very conservative, and Steele did not try to play to the crowd telling them exactly what they wanted to hear.

At the very least, he wasn't saying one thing in the ads, and then something different to conservative donors in private. His pitch was his indepedence and willingness to get stuff done.

Charismatic? Of course...but consistent also.

Steele is not independent. People keep confusing his ads with his real behavior, which is as the party man he was as Maryland Republican chair and as Lt Gov. Independence was invented for the ads just like his moderation and his muddled answers on the issues. He is something of a far right fanatic in his actions. Look at the dirty tricks he pulled on election day. A real insult to African American voters. He does have charisma and therefore all is forgiven.
