It is a symbolic gesture of acclaim that a university bestows on a person because of their accomplishments/contributions. It has nothing to do with comparing actual graduates with an honorary degree recipient.

While I agree that the president has a little way to go to establish a real resume, I'm still not sure why he hasn't matched teh accomplishments of an ASU grad.

Are ASU grads typically accomplished in the fields of legislation or executive accomplishments? Are ASU grads usually already graduates of Ivy League schools? Based on my experience at an undergrad institution slightly better than ASU (though not exactly Ivy League). the only requirements for getting an actual degreee are basic literacy and rudimentary math skills. I think Obama has those covered.

What do people do with honorary degrees anyway? do they go on resumes? do they get hung on the wall? are they actually a physical degree that one can frame?

Obama was a community organizer, whatever that means, then a state legislator and US Senator with no significant legislation, turned President who has accomplished little other than to pass incomprehensibly large spending bills while the economy shows little sign of significant recovery.

Yeah, I'd say that the body of work is still ahead of the man.

I read that the graduates at Notre Dame chanted "Yes We Can" when people heckled President Obama. I think those that chanted and much of the country is still under the delusion of his campaign rhetoric. They still view him as the savior of everything that ails society.

When polls show his popularity, I'd love to see a correlating poll that asks the same groups of people about basic issues and current events. See if those that approve of the President actually know what is going on in the world compared to those that disapprove. Now that would be useful information.
