other takes on bush-kerry I

oompa2.jpg
these are just some reflections from last thursday night that i shared with someone else, and i thought i’d blog them now. for hard-hitting analysis and in-depth reporting, check out doug’s posts on the debate [here] or [here]

1. john kerry, who at the beginning of last week transformed himself into an orange oompa loompa with his man-tan cream, figured out that he couldn’t convince anybody he actually WAS a likeable little guy who gives away free candy, and so he changed his skin color back in time for the debate.

2. john kerry attacked the president for moving our troops out of afghanistan and effectively “outsourcing” the war to afghani fighters. however, at the same time, he is arguing that this is exactly what we should have done in iraq (handed over the war to whoever will promise to wage it). this was one of his several, er, nuanced statements on american foreign policy in this debate. taken together, these statements lead me to conclude that, if elected, kerry will be our first openly schizophrenic president. he and teresa “shove it” heinz will provide endless entertainment while executing a national political trainwreck that will impress even the walking disaster, himself, bill clinton.

3. john kerry’s most appalling statement, however, was his “global test” comment, which president bush seized on, but did not fully exploit. in submitting america’s foreign policy to a “global test” (which would undoubtedly include our quasi-enemies like france) kerry is pledging to cede our national sovereignty, one of the principles upon which our nation was founded. to wit, we supposedly went to war with great britain because we didn’t want a parlaiment across the ocean to decide how we may be taxed. there is no way that americans will elect a president that will give up this 225+ year american legacy so easily.

go back and check out NRO’s live-blogging of the debate. there’s some pretty good stuff there. [link] (this is where their blogging of the debate begins. start there andread through them all for the full effect.

    DISCLAIMER:
I heard an inappropriate joke the other day on the radio. It made smirk some. Since I don’t usually tell dirty jokes, I figured this was the only place I could release this vibe. IT IS NOT MY JOKE, I ONLY REPEAT WHAT I HEARD:

So, it is a statement that may sum up the George Bush + Dick Cheeney election propaganda slogan:

One Dick & One Bush is the way God intended it.

(if you got the allusion also to their position on gay marriage, then you understood the inappropriate joke. If not, please don’t spend too much time thinking about it.)
