we still remember mitch hedberg

ahmadinejad is so dumb, it would be unconstitutional to execute him in america

the unmentionable religion (formerly known as the religion of peace)

it’s islam.

but you wouldn’t know it from lots of reports on the recent salt lake city shooting, like this one, where the reporter settles on a perfectly logical reason for the rampage: he grew up in war-torn bosnia! (you know, because we’ve had all these problems lately with bosnian rage and how it causes bosnians to kill innocent americans indiscriminately).

taken as a single instance, this reluctance to mention that a muslim committed the crime might not seem that bad. but the media’s reaction to recent events like this shows a pattern. for example, look at the whitewashed coverage of:

  • the beslan school tragedy
  • the UNC student who rammed his car into a crowd of people
  • the man who shot up the seattle jewish federation
  • and most recently (sunday night):

  • 64 killed in a train bombing in india. the culprits? muslim terrorists. but if you read this article, the people to blame are “militants from pakistan.” (no mention of religion).
  • these are just a few examples. in all of these, normally dogged reporters become docile lambs when circumstances require them to report on the uncomfortable truth that the perpetrators in these and other heinous crimes belong to the “religion of peace.”

maybe the reporters are just following mom’s advice: if you can’t say something nice [about a religion], don’t say anything at all.

    the silence is deafening.
