This is what Bill Cosby was talking about.
Two of the six teenagers (the Jena Six) who brutally beat another teenager unconscious presented a BET award last night.
Two of the teens enmeshed in the nationally known “Jena Six” case helped present the most anticipated award during Black Entertainment Television’s Hip Hop Awards show broadcast Thursday night.
Carwin Jones and Bryant Purvis were introduced by Katt Williams, a comedian and the awards show’s host, as two of the students involved in a case of “systematic racism.”
Bill Cosby is proven right, yet again.
Looking at the incarcerated, these are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake! Then we all run out and are outraged, “The cops shouldn’t have shot him” What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand? (laughter and clapping). I wanted a piece of pound cake just as bad as anybody else (laughter) And I looked at it and I had no money. And something called parenting said if get caught with it you’re going to embarrass your mother. Not you’re going to get your butt kicked. No. You’re going to embarrass your mother. You’re going to embarrass your family.
The story of these thugs continued:
Both Jones and Purvis thanked a number of people, including family, friends, the “Hip-Hop Nation” and the thousands who came to their small hometown to rally behind their case.
Purvis said the Sept. 20 rally proved “our generation can unite and rally around a cause.”
Wow. What progress.
Previous generations rallied around causes like voting rights, school integration and fighting every aspect of Jim Crow. They marched from Selma to Montgomery. They rallied by the hundreds of thousands in DC.
“Our generation” is able to bus a few thousand folks to Louisiana to get the charges knocked down for thugs who almost beat a dude to death. Truly inspirational.
