That is really interesting.
I see Argentina is keeping pace with Michigan there. I wonder how Germany would fit in. Probably too big for just one state.

Germany’s GDP is the third largest in the world, behind only Japan and the United States. Notice that Great Britain is also not on here. California’s GDP is the world’s seventh biggest, about the same as France’s. Note also that China is not on there.
