whites-only scholarship at boston university

The application itself offers an explanation: “We believe that racial preferences in all their forms are perhaps the worst form of bigotry confronting America today.”

[the] group is offering the [$250] scholarship to point out “how ridiculous it is to have any sort of racially based scholarship.”

At BU, for example, students who are at least one-quarter Hispanic can apply for a National Hispanic Recognition Scholarship.

david coreas, president of the latino fraternity, phi iota alpha (which i think is greek for “not one iota of intelligence”), offered this semi-retarded response:

“We have to look at the situation honestly,” he said. “Caucasians tend to have a higher per capita income than Latinos and other minorities. We have to have scholarships to survive.” [source: ABC news ‘whites only scholarship creates outrage’]

no, poor people need scholarships to survive. I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING CRAZY PILLS! don’t defend a scholarship that limits itself to ‘hispanics only’ as non-racist “because hispanics tend to be poor.” that is a racist generalization (and circular logic).

  1. Too true!

Exactly! Racial discrimination whether it is in the form of abuse or favoratism(ie. affirmative action) is wrong. The idea that we can alleviate racial and gender discrimination by isolating them for scholarships ect. is simple minded and counter productive. Affirmative action discriminates everybody.

Affirmative action programs is not the same as the racist scholarship the Boston University Republicans are shelling out. I am a Mexican American, but I am a Republican because I am a Conservative Christian. I know racism when I see it. This scholarship is racist. Am I surprised at this racist tactic? No I am not, many white people are ignorant of the way my people have been treatly badly by the anglo race here in the United States, to make some sort of political statement. My support of the Republicans extends only to those who support Christian values, not racism. We do not need your pathetic sum of a scholarship anyway. I will graduate with my BA in journalism in May from NMSU, in New Mexico, keep your racism in Boston.

good, because you’re not eligible for it.

take heart, though, because you’re probably eligible for thousands of scholarships across the country for which blacks, whites, asians, and native americans aren’t eligible.

many white people are ignorant of the way my people have been treatly badly by the anglo race here in the United States

a scholarship could account for this mistreatment, but it should be one in which the applicant can quantify, with objective data, how badly he (not his race) has been treated. for example, if the applicant has been denied education, he should tell how HE has been wronged; if the applicant is impoverished, he should provide HIS family’s income; if applicant has been denied access to social services, he should tell the scholarship committee HIS story; if applicant has been ridiculed daily by white yuppies shouting “yo quiero taco bell,” applicant could explain how this has disadvantaged HIM.

do you see how factors like the above could be quantified in a non-racist way to determine what individuals are in greater need of the scholarship? the point is to treat each scholarship applicant individually, and not blindly as a member of his or her race.

the latter is what racism is.

    where do I apply?

  6. Ha ha!

Modernity is one big crazy pill.

“many white people are ignorant of the way my people have been treatly badly by the anglo race here in the United States”

Yes, your PEOPLE were treated badly. OTHER people, as in NOT YOU. If you’re doing fine right here and right now, you shouldn’t get any breaks from the government or anyone. But what about the (gasp!) poor white people? Don’t they deserve the same help if they’re disadvantaged as every other race does?

If there are more people in need in a certain race, and you give help based on color-blind need, then whichever race is doing worse today will recieve more benefit tomorrow than the race which is already doing well.

And the “past injustices” thing- it’s just a vendetta against white people. Jessie Jackson has made millions because of racism. Should we tax him? He probably wouldnt be rich if there was never racism. He’s been benefiting from an unjust system.

I just happened to come across this forum. But it did get me to thinking about the fact that I was born white, of European decent, third generation, and I deserve a say in how “My Heritage” is treated in this country! My ancestors followed the quota rules; went through Ellis Island (Check the walls for our names!); learned English, despite already knowing 9 other languages; and became productive “citizens” of this society. Noone came over the border illegally! Every effort was to become an American! And welfare was considered a sign of failure!

Now, as a white, you are going to tell me that I am a bigot, just because I might want to promote my own kind? You are telling me that if I want to donate my hard earned money towards a scholarship fund, it cannot go to the white people of my heritage? I’m white! Why wouldn’t I want to contribute to that cause?

You other peoples lock me out every day…in your stores, behind the counter, and especially at the doctor’s office! I sat for three hours in the waiting room, while every hispanic that walked in after me went in ahead of me. I ended up being the last patient to see the doctor. That was because the receptionist was Hispanic! This what we call reverse discrimination!!! And, the funny thing is, I would never have thought to do this to you! If you ask me, you are the bigots!!!

I found this website because I was trying to find a place where I might be able to leave a donation when I leave this world. And, believe me, after what I’ve read, I would rather bury it in the ground, than leave a dime to likes of any non-white on this planet.

Please, all White-only associations, send me your brochures!!!

I can only assume that Rosanne’s comment is some sort of parody that I’m just not quite getting…

This website is stupidly cool. we shouldnt have the racial college funds and then we should but atleast make a white fund and a asian fund and just not the funds for iliterate people like the blacks and mexicans

  11. dont worry about it

Uhm i dont think its racist because there are many scholerships for hispanic only and for indiginous only and for black only and many more that single out a certain race but ther are also scholarships that are for all races so i think u prople just wanna find a way to cause problems.

Just to point out there are a variety of scholarships for people with European decent.

Also some of the comments on here are highly ignorant and make no sense at all, but thank you because of thoughts and views like yours I will always have scholarship money.

Being a student of both Russian, Polish, Belarusian decent….and half African-American, I would never argue for a white scholarship. If you did your research and really understood the disparity between different racial groups you wouldn’t being making some of these ridiculous arguments.

other than this one, please point me to another scholarship out there that is available only to whites.

agree. at some point, this thread started attracting comments from the bottom of the barrel.

please make your best argument for racially-selective scholarships and i will show you how carefully crafted, race-neutral scholarships could do the job just as well without all the yucky racism.
